LO4

Love, love is like a stubborn youth
That you'd rather just deny
I'm walking on a broken roof
While I'm looking at the sky
it’s all false love and affection
You don't want me you just like the attention
Yes it’s all false love and affection
You don't like me you just want the attention
I'm not your toy
This isn't another girl meets boy [repeat 2 xs]

Love, love hides in a smoky light I can never find the truth Boy,
Your touches leave me mystified I wish I could believe in you
Yes It's all false love and affection
You don't want me you just like the attention
Yes it’s all false love and affection
You don't like me you just want the attention
I'm not your toy
This isn't another girl meets boy [repeat 3x]

it’s all false love and affection
You don't want me you just like the attention
Yes it’s all false love and affection
You don't like me you just want the attention
[Instrumental Break]

The song is about a 'boyfriend' cruelly playing with his 'girlfriends' heart. While having a girlfriend the male character is 'messing around' with other females.

Within the song la roux is stating that she is not his toy and he can't just have her when other girls are no longer interested. She is saying that its not a boy meets girl story where he will be forgiven for doing something wrong, he will only suffer.
  • Describe the 'story' in your own words. The structure of the song - does it conform to mainstream songs' formulaic verse-chorus-second verse-repeat chorus and so forth?

The song may be seen as mainstream as it has the verse-chorus-second verse-repeat chorus and so forth structure, the song is layed out in a story formation, it has a beginning, a middle, and an end broken up with a repetitive chorus within each layer.
  • The language used in the lyrics - what words are often repeated and what impact does this have?
Throughout the song the lines 'I'm not your toy', 'you don't like me you just want the attention', 'this isn't another girl meets boy' are used repetitivly. The language that La Roux uses throughout makes the audience feel the heartbreak behind the song, she uses phrases that shows the relationship is over.
  • Consider the relationship between the musical style and the song's lyrics and narrative structure - does it all 'fit' together?
The music style, lyrics and narrative structure all fit well together as they all give the audience the same message, the message that the artist is trying to put across is that she is not a toy and she won't be played by anyone. The music style is quite upbeat and happy that can show the guy she is moving on and refuses to be put down by him.
  • How does the song make you feel? How do the lyrics and the music contribute to this?
The song makes the audience feel close to the artist, the artist connects to people who have been through similar problems, or can connect to people who agree with what she is saying in her lyrics. The song makes you feel apart of the artists feelings. The lyrics have quite a deep meaning to them however the upbeat music makes the song happier.
  • What words are emphasised - how and why?
The words that the artist emphasised where the lines 'im not your toy' and 'this isn't another girl meets boy', the way that the artist uses the words shows that she does not want to be played or hurt by this guy and does not want other females to be hurt either.
  • How does the vocal delivery 'fit' the songs subject matter and music accompaniment?
The vocal preformance on the track fits well with the subject and the music as it makes the artist sound proud as to what she is saying, the track and the vocals are upbeat however show i sign of importance in the lyrics, it shows that the artist believes in what she is singing about, therefore the track including music, meaning and vocals fit well together.
